Simply put, marketing unearths and activates buyers. Branding makes loyal customers, advocates, even evangelists, out of those who buy. Branding is not a logo, catchphrase or slogan – those are all important parts of branding but not the only things!<br />

<p><b><em><span style="color: #636f8f;">BRANDING VS. MARKETING: CASE STUDY</span>  </em>  </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here’s how this works in real life. Let’s take an auto shop business for example. They have a healthy monthly marketing budget to send direct mailings, run Facebook ads and other digital ads. However, once someone walks through their door to get a free oil change (as part of a high-converting promotion), the customer notices a dirty waiting room, a rude front desk employee and a long waiting time for their oil change. Their experience with this company is poor and they won’t be going back. The customer may also feel the need to give the auto shop a 1-star rating on Yelp, Google or Facebook because of their experience.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, if that same shop invested in creating a positive customer experience (e.g. offered a clean, comfortable waiting space, a friendly front desk employee), that customer could not only become a lifelong repeat buyer but also recommend the service to their friends.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>So case in point, no amount of marketing can save a continuously misguided brand. Businesses must fix the brand first!</strong> </span><span id="more-2747"></span></p>

		<p>Kristin earned her undergraduate degree in English from SUNY Geneseo and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College in Boston. Growing up, she loved reading books and writing her own stories. She even aspires to be a published writer someday (and everyone at PK has full faith that she’ll do it!).</p>

<p><b>What is your favorite thing about working at Paperkite?</b></p>
<p><em>The people! I feel very fortunate to work with such an amazing group of creative and supportive women.</em></p>
<p><strong>What is your favorite activity to get your creativity going?</strong></p>
<p><em>Does drinking coffee count as an activity? <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> I find that taking a walk is always helpful if I’m stuck creatively. Listening to music helps, too.</em></p>
<p><strong>Favorite place to travel?</strong></p>
<p><em>My first trip abroad was my honeymoon to Ireland almost 18 years ago. While I’ve been fortunate to travel other places since then that trip definitely ranks high on my list favorite places. Driving across Ireland was an interesting way to experience the cities, small villages, and landscape of the country.</em></p>
<p><b>Favorite place in Cooperstown?</b></p>
<p><em>I love Glimmerglass State Park in the summertime. I’m not much of a beach person, but there’s lots of shady spots to settle down with a good book. And Otsego Lake is always picturesque.</em></p>
<p><b>What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?</b></p>
<p><em>There’s no single, magical piece of advice that I can think of! I’m very much an introvert, so reminding myself to get out of my own head is necessary from time to time.</em></p>

		<h3>Why the big move?</h3>
<p>There’s a myriad of reasons for the big move. Our business is growing, and adding in new services like video production and new staff made our old office feel a bit like working in a walk in closet. More square footage gives everyone the opportunity for a work space, and&#8230; no more mini fridge! We are now the proud owners of a full size, adult-life fridge. We know, with a big fridge comes big responsibility, and we are all prepared for the “I’m not your mom, clean up after yourself” and “who keeps stealing my siracha?” signs. Even better than a fridge, we are ecstatic to have a full-fledged conference room with beautiful banquette seating. Now, team and client meetings will be convenient and relaxing.</p>

We received the warmest welcome last fall when opening an office at the entrepreneurial haven, the Troy Innovation Garage.
